My artwork is inspired by the natural landscape of Canada. After moving to Victoria in 2013, I was struck by the beauty of Vancouver Island and immediately knew that my artwork would never be the same. My paintings quickly turned to colourful palettes bursting with juicy teals and deep navies. My obsession with colour became very real but even I knew that pretty colours weren't enough.

 

Learning to trust my creativity took me a decade. I used to shield all work in progress from the world. I'd wait until the last possible moment to call something "complete" before revealing it. This stunted my growth as an artist because I stayed within my comfort zone and wasn't taking risks. I decided that I needed to start doing more things that scared me, which was when I started painting in front of live audiences at fundraisers and competing in speed painting events.

 

Over time, my newfound trust in my spontaneous approach brought an elevated sense of energy and movement to the canvas. With this harnessed dynamism, I create artwork with movement that the onlooker will continue to feel many years after it's painted.
